Travel Grant

The purpose of these Travel Grants is to help composers take part in particularly relevant professional concert events, networking, and professional exchanges

Note: We will open for the receipt of applications for the next round ca. 3 weeks before deadline.

The travel grant can be applied for by composers and sound artists who are members of Koda and who work within the genres of art music such as classical score music, audiovisual works, musical drama, electronica, game and film music, sound art and improvisation.

Please note that this grant can only be applied for by single individuals and not by groups.

As a composer, you can apply for a Travel Grant when you have documented travel and accommodation expenses relating to:

  • first performances and new rehearsals in Denmark or abroad
  • performances at festivals or at major concert events
  • active participation in composers’ workshops and the like
  • study trips, retreats and residencies
  • travels associated with retreats awarded at San Cataldo, Klitgaarden and the like.
  • An application, one page or less (submit as a PDF file). Also attach a description of the project prompting you to travel and the travels you wish to carry out
  • A travel budget
  • At least one audio file providing an example of your work
  • CV

Applications for Travel Grants are accepted four times a year. The application deadlines are:

March 1st
June 1st
September 1st
December 1st

Applications for Travel Grants are assessed by a committee. In 2023, the committee comprises of:

Martin Stauning (Commitee chair)
Jonas Olesen,
Thomas Agergaard
Ingeborg Okkels (ekstern)

Insofar as this is possible, all journeys should be undertaken using the cheapest mode of public transport. If for special reasons you must drive in your own car, you may receive a mileage allowance; this is currently set at DKK 1.90 per km.

You can also apply for funding towards the cost of accommodation (up to DKK 1000 per night). The grant does not award daily allowances towards food.

This grant only covers the applicant’s own travel expenses.

You will receive a reply to your application approximately two months after the application deadline.

You cannot receive support for the same project from several pools under Koda Culture. This applies according to 6.D in our regulation. Find the regulation here.

This means that if you for example apply for publication, you can only receive support once for your publishing project. You cannot receive support for publication from both The Publishing pool, The Up-and-Coming Grant and The Recording/Release Grant at the same time. On the other hand, you will be able to receive support for other processes of the same project from other pools. For example, if you have received support for the recording/release part of your project, you can apply for support for the next phase of your project, e.g. for promoting your release or from the PR pools.

We have pools that support the different processes that your project can go through. The processes can – from an overall point of view – be divided into:

  • Create (idea, clarification, writing)
  • Improve/develop (coaching, camps, education)
  • Release (record, mix, master)
  • 'Disseminate' (PR/marketing, concert production, fairs and exhibitions)
