Recording/Release Grant

The purpose of the Recording/Release Grant is to support releases of newly created music in order to ensure the continued development of the music scene in Denmark. The Recording/Release Grant puts special emphasis on promoting the professional production of the creators’ own new works.

Note: We will open for the receipt of applications for the next round 3 weeks before deadline

The Recording/Release Grant welcomes applications from all authors who are members of Koda.

The Recording/Release Grant is intended to cover various expenses associated with releasing new music, including recording, mixing and mastering (CD, vinyl and digital releases) as well as musicians’ fees, producers’ fees, studio rental and production of physical releases (LP, CD etc.). The grant offers funding for releases of the author’s own works only. As a rule, these works may not have been previously published.

Releases that have received funding via Musikforlæggerne are not eligible for this grant.

  • Application. You must fill out a short and concise project description that explains what you are applying for support for. What should be published? who will release the music, when should the music be released, what are your plans for the release (Is there a special target group you would like to hit, what ambitions do you have for the release) What releases have you previously released.
  • Audio files. Minimum 2 Mp3 audio files in order of priority. It is recommended that the attached audio files are recent and relevant to the application.
  • Text or score. For music where notation plays a significant role, a score must be attached for the work applied for, as well as another audio file of earlier date. For music where the text is the basis of the expression, a text must at least be attached to one of the submitted works.
  • Budget.
  • Power of attorney from composer or songwriter if applied for on behalf of a composer or songwriter. The power of attorney must be current, and the power of attorney cannot be reused for the next application deadline nor for other pools. Applications without a valid power of attorney may be rejected.
  • Timetable

In addition, you can attach:

  • CV. Max 1 side
  • Direct link to music or video (streaming services that require a subscription are not accepted). It is the applicant's responsibility that links and Dropbox files are accessible.
  • Link to homepage
  • Detailed budget

The release must be realizable and realistic. This means, for example, that an agreement on studio rent must already have been entered into in connection with recording, mixing and mastering, or agreement on publishing with a music company etc.

The Recording Grant has three annual application deadlines. The next deadline is:

6. Febuary 2025 15 PM

in 2025 the deadline is:

6th February
15th May
11th September

NB: The grant will be open for applications 3 weeks before deadline.

Applications for the Recording/Release Grant are processed by a committee. The 2023/2024 committee comprises:

Helena Heinesen Rebensdorff (udpeget af Autor)

Ylva Lund Bergner (udpeget af DKF)

Gisli Gislason (udpeget af DPA)

All inquiries regarding your application must be made to the administrative staff of the organisation to which your application is directed. Contacting a committee member will be considered an undue attempt to influence the processing of your application, and may cause your application to be rejected outright.

Generally speaking, the grants awarded range between DKK 10,000 and 50,000.

From 2022 the support from the Recording/Release pool will be paid, when documentation is submitted in the form of accounting of expenses, crediting of Koda Kultur and documentation of the released music. The Grant is paid as a deficit guarantee. It is also a prerequisite for the grant that you submit documentation no later than 12 months after the commitment has been obtained.

You can obtain support for the same project once, and you can therefore not apply with projects that have already received a grant from the Recording/Release pool.

A manager may submit a maximum of 10 applications for an application round in the Recording/Release Pool.

You will receive a reply to your application approximately 3 months after the application deadline. If your application is rejected, please be aware that no individual explanation for the committee’s refusal will be given.

You cannot receive support for the same project from several pools under Koda Culture. This applies according to 6.D in our regulation. Find the regulation here.

This means that if you for example apply for publication, you can only receive support once for your publishing project. You cannot receive support for publication from both The Publishing pool, The Up-and-Coming Grant and The Recording/Release Grant at the same time. On the other hand, you will be able to receive support for other processes of the same project from other pools. For example, if you have received support for the recording/release part of your project, you can apply for support for the next phase of your project, e.g. for promoting your release or from the PR pools.

We have pools that support the different processes that your project can go through. The processes can – from an overall point of view – be divided into:

  • Create (idea, clarification, writing)
  • Improve/develop (coaching, camps, education)
  • Release (record, mix, master)
  • 'Disseminate' (PR/marketing, concert production, fairs and exhibitions)
