The fund supports the development and production of new works with a specific public performance in mind. The fund can support both work commissions from external commissioners and productions for which the composer him- og herself is responsible and where the development of his/her own work is part of production.

The fund also provides support for preliminary projects for a larger production where a written agreement is in place, such as a musical drama, a film composition or a large sound installation.

The fund is based on the principles of Fair Practice. The purpose of the fund is to strengthen the conditions for the development and production of new music and sound art works and their encounter with the audience.

The goal is to contribute to the development of strong works of lasting value that contribute to a viable working life for composers and sound artists throughout their careers.

Composers and sound artists who have received a commission from another party can apply for support for the agreed commission fee. Once the composer/sound artist has completed the application, the commissioner will receive an email with login information for the application, where they must confirm the commission agreement before the application is finally submitted for processing.

Composers and sound artists who are responsible for their own production can apply for support for their own fee/production.

Composers with an agreed commission for a larger work that requires a development phase can apply for support for a preliminary project.

Applications for support for preliminary projects for larger works may apply for a maximum of DKK 30,000.

For preliminary projects, smaller productions with a total budget of up to DKK 30,000, or if the client is a soloist without an agency, co-financing is not a requirement, and support for the full budget may be applied for.

Applications for amounts exceeding DKK 30,000 must be accompanied by a financing plan describing the total financing of the project and an agreement and plan for the project's further course in the event of a lack of financing.

You will receive a response to your application within two months of the application deadline.

Support for preliminary projects and support amounts of up to DKK 30,000 will be paid immediately after the support has been awarded.

For grants of more than DKK 30,000 for the development and production of new works, 50% of the amount will be paid upon award and 50% upon submission of documentation (e.g. score, soundtrack) of the finished work.

You cannot receive funding for the same project from multiple grant schemes under Koda Culture. This is in accordance with our regulations, section 6.D. You can find the regulation here.

This means that, for example, if you apply for funding for a release, you can only receive support once for your release project. In other words, you cannot receive funding for a release from both the Release Fund and the Publisher Fund. However, you may receive support for other phases of the same project from other funds. For instance, if you have received funding for the release, you may apply for support for the next phase of your project, such as marketing the release, from the PR funds.

An exception to these rules is the Potential Funds, which are not part of the Cultural Funds.

We have funds that support the various phases your project may go through. These phases can – from an overall perspective – be divided into:

  • Create (idea, clarification, writing)
  • Improve/Develop (coaching, camps, education)
  • Release (recording, mixing, mastering)
  • Disseminate (PR/marketing, concert production, trade fairs and exhibitions)
